How to Compare Ride-Hailing Fares in Singapore

A practical guide to checking ride prices without treating every number as permanent.

Ride-hailing prices in Singapore can change between providers and across the day. A fare you see now may not be the same fare you see several minutes later, so a useful comparison is not just about finding the smallest number. It is also about understanding how fresh the information is, what service type it refers to, and where the final fare will be confirmed.

Compare SG is being built around that problem. Our aim is to make it easier to compare supported ride providers before you choose where to continue, while keeping the final booking and payment with the provider.

Why can the same Singapore journey have different fares?

Time and demand

Ride prices can move when demand rises or driver availability changes. Peak periods, late nights and major events can all affect what you see.

Pickup and destination

Airport trips, busy districts, pickup restrictions and exact pickup points can affect the service options or surcharges shown by a provider.

Different service types

A standard private-hire ride, taxi option or larger vehicle is not always directly comparable. Check that you are comparing equivalent ride categories.

Price freshness

A fare can change between the comparison and the provider app. The more recent the check, the more useful the context — but the provider still confirms the final fare.

A simple way to compare before booking

  1. Use the same pickup and destination. Small location differences can produce different results, especially around large stations, malls and airports.
  2. Compare equivalent ride types. A taxi, standard private-hire car and premium vehicle may use different pricing rules.
  3. Check when the fare was observed. A recent check is more informative than an old screenshot or remembered fare.
  4. Understand expected fares and ranges. Compare SG uses recently collected observations to show expected fares and typical ranges, not the current price to book. Check the provider app for that.
  5. Confirm before booking. Open the provider you prefer and check the current fare, availability and any fees before you complete the booking.

How to compare different kinds of Singapore rides

The best way to check a fare depends on the trip. Here are practical situations where simply choosing the smallest number can be misleading.

A short neighbourhood ride

For a short trip between nearby blocks, malls or MRT stations, the minimum fare and any additional fees may matter more than a small difference in road distance. Confirm the correct entrance and final amount before booking.

A cross-island or peak-hour journey

For a longer ride, compare the same departure period. Road traffic and demand can make an observation from a quiet afternoon a poor guide to a weekday rush-hour trip. A historical range is context, not a promise.

A personal voucher or promotion

A discount available only to your account can make your final app quote lower than an indicative standard fare. Check any eligibility conditions and compare the actual amount payable in your own provider account. Do not assume another rider receives the same discount.

An airport or complex pickup point

Check that the exact Changi terminal, authorised pickup area or building entrance matches in every app. A different pickup point can change both the journey and where you meet your driver.

Which ride apps can Singapore users compare?

Compare SG's public comparison is being prepared around five supported ride providers: Gojek, TADA, CDG Zig, Ryde, Geolah. The reliability of fare estimates can differ by route and time. Provider inclusion does not imply an official partnership. For a wider-market overview that also discusses Grab, see our Singapore ride-hailing app guide.

What a trustworthy comparison should tell you

A comparison should show which fares are expected estimates, what typical ranges suggest and whether recent evidence is strong enough. It should not invent a fare simply to make every row look complete.

What about rides to and from Changi Airport?

Airport journeys are especially worth comparing because demand, pickup location, service type and provider-specific fees can change what you see. Set the correct terminal or pickup point, compare like-for-like options, and confirm the final amount in the provider app. Our Changi Airport ride guide explains the pickup considerations and official taxi surcharge rules.

Frequently asked questions

Which ride app is always cheapest in Singapore?

There is no provider that can be assumed to be cheapest for every route and time. Prices can change with demand, availability, service type and promotions, which is why comparing before booking can be useful.

What is the difference between an expected fare and a typical range?

An expected fare is an indicative price informed by recent relevant observations. A typical range shows how prices for similar journeys may vary. Both provide context, not a confirmed current quote or guarantee.

Is a comparison fare guaranteed?

No. Compare SG is being built to use recently collected fare observations to show expected fares and typical ranges when there is enough evidence. The provider app confirms the current fare and availability before you book.

Should I compare before or after applying a voucher?

Check both the ordinary quoted fare and any account-specific promotion terms. A discount in your own account may not apply to anyone else, so compare the amount you would actually pay rather than treating promotional prices as universally available.

Do I book through Compare SG?

No. Compare SG is an independent comparison and information service. You continue with the provider you choose to confirm availability, fare, booking and payment.
